Programme for February 2012

Monday 6th February at 10 a.m. :

We will finish planting our saplings at Deer Park Wood. Please wear stout boots or wellies and thick gloves. If we finish this task early, we have other outstanding jobs to do:

Finishing the coppicing of ‘the bund’,
Continuing to dig the scrapes,
Spreading mulch,
Augmenting the hedgerows with more hollies, and filling the gaps at the Eastern entrance.

Please bring all the appropriate tools for these jobs, like forks, pickaxes, spades, loppers, saws, secateurs, wheelbarrows, and tarpaulins. Park at the Range Road entrance and meet on site. Anyone wanting a lift, please meet under the Waitrose clocktower at 10 a.m. and one of us will bring you along.

Monday 13th February at 10 a.m. :

*CHANGE!* The weather has changed our February plans somewhat. This week we have been delayed in planting the saplings for Deer Park Wood, so we are not going to Green Spires Wood in Oxford on Monday 13th Feb, but back to Deer Park to plant about 25 trees.

Because the mulch was delivered late, we are behind with that too, so can I suggest that everyone who can, stays on at 12 noon, brings a picnic lunch and thermos flask, and then we can carry on in the early afternoon putting the mulch around the new trees, and a few established ones too.

So, you will need stout boots and thick gloves, plus the following tools: mallets, secateurs, spades and forks, pickaxes, wheel barrows, and tarpaulins. For the mulching we will just need spades.

Park on Range Road and meet on site at 10 a.m. If you need a lift go to the Waitrose clocktower at 10 am and one of us will bring you along.

Monday 20th February at 10 a.m. :

*CHANGE!* Green Spires Wood in Oxford needs some hazel coppicing done again. I am rather hoping Riki will provide her hot apple cider again…… We will all meet under the clocktower at Waitrose and drive there in shared cars. We will try and be back within 3 hours, but maybe its best if you are not intending to drive your car to Oxford, if you park in the long-term carpark. Please bring loppers, secateurs and saws, plus plastic sheets to bring home some wood. Riki can do with a little income, so it is nice if we buy some pea sticks/bean poles/firewood. Wear stout boots and thick gloves.

Monday 27th February at 10 a.m. :

We have been asked to plant some more ash trees at Southdown Farm, so please let’s meet there. We will need pickaxes, spades and forks as the ground is hard. I will bring the ash trees. Please wear stout boots or wellies and thick gloves. The Farm Shop is selling joints of pork and lamb, as well as sausages, eggs and home-made honey, so bring a wallet and plastic bag. If you require a lift, meet under the clocktower at Waitrose at 10 a.m. and someone will bring you along.
